(Dis)Able
COLLABORATION WITH HUIS HORISON
(PERSONAL PROJECT-UNIVERSITY)
We had the great opportunity to collaborate with Huis Horison in Stellenbosch. Huis Horison is a home for people with different debilities. This beautiful home looks after individuals, educates them and gives them the opportunity to still be apart of a community by being apart of local projects, like recycling, baking bizarres, arts & crafts markets, etc.
I was one of 5 designers working together to create an awareness video, specifically around the worlds perspective on disabled individuals. Sometimes we find that people with disabilities are excluded from a normal community, because they are incapable to function and live a normal life.
(Dis) able is an awareness campaign that questions and challenges this specific idea, that disabled individuals are incapable to contribute in their own community.
We spent time documenting individuals living in Huis Horison, while they were making a difference in recycling, making clothes, gardening and making arts & crafts which they could sell to make an income for themselves.
We used this footage and jaxpositioned it to the way the world sees disabled people. We hope this changes your perspective, like it changed ours.
Enjoy our behind the scene video.
